Event Name: Sara’s Swim: The Lambay Challenge
Date: Sunday, August 24, 2025
Format: Open Water Relay
Start Point: Lambay Island Marina (approx. 8km off the north Dublin coastline)
End Point: Low Rock Beach, Malahide, Co. Dublin
Challenge: Teams will begin swim from the island's marina in direction of the Malahide shoreline, navigating the scenic coastal waters. Each team will have a supporting boat. If you cannot organise your own support boat, please let us know and we’ll try help you source one.
Schedule
Meet-Up Time: 10:45 AM
Meet-Up Location: Malahide Yacht Club
Briefing: All participating swimmers and support crew should gather at Malahide Yacht Club for a pre-swim briefing at 11am sharp. Following the briefing, you and your nominated boat will make your way to Lambay Island Marina.
Additional logistics: Any bags or items you would like for after the swim can be kept at Malahide Yacht club (at your own risk).
Swim Safety & Weather Protocol
The safety of all participants is of utmost priority. We implement strict safety measures and weather protocols to ensure a secure environment for the Lambay Crossing.
Weather Monitoring: We will closely monitor the Met Éireann Sea Area forecast in the days leading up to the event.
Strict Criteria: The decision to proceed with the challenge will be based on very strict weather criteria:
Visibility: We will not swim unless there is a clear line of sight between Lambay Island and the Malahide coastline,
Wind: We will not swim if there is a Force 4 or above wind from the South, North or West. We will not swim if there is a Force 5 or above wind from the East
Swell: We will not swim if there is a heavy swell that is 4m or over.
Event Status: Participants will be informed promptly if there are any changes to the event status due to adverse weather conditions. Our commitment is to never compromise on safety.
Required Equipment
Participants will need to come prepared with specific equipment to ensure their safety and an enjoyable experience during the Lambay Crossing. The required equipment is:
Open Water Swimming Tow Float. Examples: Decathlon swim buoy, Ishka Tow Float
Open Water Swim Hat (Bright colour). Examples: Wetsuit Outlet, Sports Direct.
Warm wrap or dry robe
We would also strongly recommend that swimmers also bring a towel and goggles.
Any swimmer who does not have all the required equipment on the day will not be allowed to participate.
